NEW Daniel Biskup’s photos are works of art in the genre of documentary photography. They are testimonials of time. Daniel Biskup is THE photographer of the German Unity and his pictures kept records of the worldshaking moments when the wall came down.

For the 25th anniversary of the German Unity, the online gallery Salz und Silber shows parts of his expressive work. Salz und Silber is the first online gallery specialized on documentary photography. It offers photographies from famous photo artists and documentary photographers in limited editions, genuinely signed and unique. Additionally, the blog Fotografie der Zeit gives exciting infos all about the scene and about documentary photography in general.

On our last visit at the online gallery in Augsburg, we took the chance to ask Daniel what motivated him to experience and document the Unity so closely. His answer is as simple as it is evident: „I realized: Something is happening there – I have to be a part of it.“ And because he likes the Salz und Silber logo created by Jotopia | Visual Noise so much, he gave us a genuinely signed copy of his book „1989/1990“. That’s a feather in our cap! Thank you, Daniel!

Question And AnswerCHICKEN OR BEEF? Describe yourself/your work/your studio in a few words.
STEFAN My name is Raymond Lemstra and I live in Amsterdam. I mostly make small sized drawings with pencil on paper, amongst other things. It’s important to me that there’s a strong sense of dedication to the basic materials in my drawings. In most of my work I play with facial recognition, geometrical shapes and selective emphasis. I recently moved into a new studio with my dear friend Wayne Horse.

COB? What has been your latest travel location?
RAYMOND London.

COB? For business or for holiday?
RAYMOND A bit of both. I went to look up friends and meet some people for business.

COB? What will be your next destination?
RAYMOND That would be Berlin for the Pictoplasma 10 year anniversary group exhibition or Copenhagen for a group exhibition with some good friends. Looking forward to both!

COB? Do you draw inspiration out of traveling?
RAYMOND Yes I do. I love the silence of travelling itself. And once I have arrived at my destination, I suck up all the new shapes and colors I encounter. Also the new people I meet give me new thoughts or make me aware of possibilities I wouldn’t have thought of by myself.

COB? Chicken or beef, when the stewardess asks you?
RAYMOND I really enjoy the experience of eating on an airplane, it’s a shame the food itself is usually so disappointing though. So, I basically agree with my friend Stefan on this one. In an airplane it would be chicken. But if Stefan is cooking, I’d choose steak every time!

COB? Five things you take with you on a solitary island?
RAYMOND If it’s like a Crusoe thing I would bring a castle with a modern central heating system and a lot of food and drinks in it, some rugged outdoor survival wear with lots of pockets, a box containing thousands of knives, guns and lighters. And last but not least my loved ones on bikes. If it were just for relaxation I would bring my girl, bath towels, music, food and drinks.

COB? Who should be asked next these questions?
RAYMOND Wayne Horse.

COB? Thanks a lot Raymond!
